The core competence of J. Rettenmaier & Söhne lies in the development, processing and optimisation of high-grade fibers from natural, renewable raw materials (cellulose, wood, grain, fruit plants etc.).

In cooperation with the Advanced Ceramics group at the University of Bremen we followed an innovative approach based on usage of JRS

fibers as pore creators for ceramics. By variation of cellulose particle structure and size we evaluated the effect on pore characterization.

Investigations were made according to the processing mediated by ionotropic gelation developed by the Advanced Ceramics Group.

Pore structure, quantity and size have been examined and evaluated regarding the usage in ceramic applications such as catalyst carriers, filtration elements and refractory ceramics.
