One of the main challenges of lightweight design with fibre reinforced composites today is to manufacture components with the required mechanical performance in series-production with short cycle times and low costs. Possible approach is to bring the cost-intensive reinforcing fibers locally along the load paths (tailored reinforcing insert) and integrate it . The combination of continuous fiber reinforcement in the areas of maximum loads and cheaper materials such as long-fiber reinforced thermoplastic offers an efficient material application. Thereby, a required ratio of mechanical properties and attractive cost profile can be achieved.

In the present study, two different geometry combinations of endless fibres reinforced inserts were integrated in several thermoplastic materials (PA12, PA6 and PA6 with 25 % glas fibre). For the integration the injection molding has been used. The investigation shows the influencing factors on the mechanical performance of a sample based on the geometry of a plate (100 x 100 x 4 mm) with a borehole (Ø 20 mm) inside. It could be proved that the inserts increase the mechanical performance of the plate. Furthermore different requirements could be derived.
